There are several reasons to have a dog door in your house.

1. Ending Frustration. My dogs are housebroken, however when I was at home I felt like a doorman at a fancy New York Hotel. They want out, 5 minutes later they want in, 10 minutes go by and they want to go out ?it is a vicious circle. By the end of the evening I’m worn out. Having a dog door allows them to run in and out to their hearts content, and I have a peaceful evening.
2. Peace of Mind. Sometimes I have to work late or stop by the grocery store on the way home. Before I installed the doggy door I would be frantic knowing that my babies had been locked up?for at least 9 hours ?they can only hold it?for so long. Conversely, if they are locked outside what to do if you have bad weather? Last May my dogs were locked outside, I was at work and we were hit by a large unexpected tornado. Luckily my house was spared, but my dogs still tremble and hide when the wind picks up. (That incident was the impetus for my installing the dog door, and I love it!)
3. My number 1 reason to have a dog door: SAFETY. You ask: how can it be safe ?I have a large dog, a person could crawl right thru it? Well, lets think about that for a minute. Do you think your dog would allow a stranger to enter his backyard and crawl thru his door into his house? Highly unlikely. How many peopled are burgled while the family is at work/school? Picture this, I am a burglar and I am casing YOUR house. I see a large dog in the back yard ?I am laughing, because the dog is outside and what I want is inside. Imagine my surprise when I enter the house and the dog is sitting there, ready to eat me!

These are only a few of the reasons that I suggest you invest in dog doors. You will be happy, and so will your best friend.
